Napan is a Desa and the capital of the Indonesian district ( Kecamatan ) North Bikomi ( Indonesian Bikomi Utara ) in the administrative district ( Kabupaten ) of North Central Timor (Timor Tengah Utara) . Napan is located in West Timor , which belongs to the province of East Nusa Tenggara .
"Napan" is the word for "butterfly" in the local language Uab Meto .
geography
The area of the Desas is 5.68 km², which corresponds to 8.03% of the district area. It is at an altitude of 497 m , parts of the area reach 590 m . To the south is the village of Tes , southeast Sainoni and northeastern Banain B . In the north and west, Napan borders on the East Timorese exclave Oe-Cusse Ambeno . Kefamenanu , the main town in the administrative district, is 23 kilometers away.
There are mud volcanoes in Napan .
Residents
In 2017, the Desa had 1,111 inhabitants (547 men and 564 women) who lived in 266 households. There were eight births and four deaths there that year. Only half of the small children are well fed. 13% show severe deficiency symptoms. All residents are of the Catholic faith.
history
During the last wave of violence in 1999 by the Indonesian occupying power in East Timor, many East Timorese fled across the border into West Timor. So do 500 East Timorese who set up their refugee camp in Napan. In November 2000 they returned to East Timor, which was now under the interim administration of the United Nations .
Economy, transport and public institutions
In Napan there is the district puskesmas , where a general practitioner and a dentist work, and the chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua. There is also a non-state primary school and a state middle school here. The next high school is in Sainoni.
Of the 266 households, 160 are in stable houses, 80 are only declared as emergency accommodation. All households operate agriculture for their maintenance. There are 25 small traders in Napan. Local public transport is operated by six small trucks, 16 minibuses and 18 motorcycle taxis.
A border crossing near Napan leads to the East Timorese town of Bobometo ( Oesilo administrative office ). The market in Napan is also used for cross-border trade. Food and fuel are smuggled across the border.
