The Napoleon Cycle Path or Cycle Path 1806 is a 34-kilometer regional tourist cycle route in Thuringia that leads to the sites of the battle of Jena and Auerstedt on October 14, 1806. He was expelled on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of this battle in 2006. At the same time, it offers a low-traffic bicycle connection between Jena and the neighboring town of Apolda .
Route profile and route
The cycle route, which can be used regardless of the weather, mainly leads over paved paths away from the main roads, but all surface qualities occur. In some sections, rural roads with low to moderate traffic loads must be used without taking particular account of cycling. The signposting is not always clear in the area of Cospeda - Krippendorf, as hiking trails that deviate from the cycle route are marked with the logo of the cycle path.
The cycle route branches off from the “Thuringian Chain of Cities” cycle route at the “Papiermühle” restaurant, about 2.5 kilometers west of Jena city center, and continues on a steep climb (around 160 meters in altitude on 1.8 kilometers) to Cospeda , further in undulating height profile through the suburbs of Jena Closewitz and Krippendorf . After climbing to the Krippendorfer post mill , you leave the Jena district. Via the small towns of Hermstedt and Schöten , it goes through the Schötener Grund (gravel path) to Apolda , with the route almost uninterrupted downhill.
After driving through the city center, you leave Apolda in a north-easterly direction via Auenstraße and after crossing a ridge you reach Wickerstedt . From here the route of the Ilm Valley Cycle Path to Bad Sulza is used. From Bad Sulza you drive along the Emsenbach on a section of the Saale-Unstrut-Elster-Rad-Acht ( "Emsenbach-Radweg" ) to the end point Auerstedt .
