The Nasse Dreieck is a 4.8 hectare , wild-growing green open space in the Berlin district of Pankow in the Pankow district . It is located in the "Dreiländereck" between the districts Gesundbrunnen , Prenzlauer Berg and Pankow and has been part of the landscape protection area of the former wall strip, the Schönholzer Heide and the Bürgerpark since November 18, 2010 .

history

After the fall of the Wall , the former border area was left to its own devices, so that a unique, steppe-like and open landscape could arise. The southern access to the S-Bahn rectifier substation to the wet triangle was for years an important shortcut for residents, pedestrians and cyclists. Because garbage was repeatedly dumped illegally on the approximately 100-meter-long access route , Deutsche Bahn blocked access to and crossing its premises with a gate and NATO wire in mid-2011 . The railway and the Pankow district are not prepared to cover the costs for the disposal. You can only enter the site in the north from Brehmestrasse through an inconspicuous gap between two new buildings. The Berlin network for green corridors together with the Green League Berlin and other initiatives started a signature campaign in 2012 with the request to reopen the southern access and handed it over to the responsible city councilor Jens-Holger Kirchner on November 8, 2012 . 1086 signatures were collected, 300 of them online on the OpenPetition platform . Renewed talks in January 2013 with Kirchner and other parties involved had little effect on the district office.

In order to further promote the problem of illegal garbage, the Berlin network for green corridors submitted a citizen's application to the District Assembly (BVV) in Pankow in April 2013 with the request to reopen the southern access. It was proposed to put up a traffic sign on the Gesundbrunner side in Grüntaler Straße at about the level of the last street lights with the inscription: No cars allowed / only bicycles allowed . Shortly before the S-Bahn underpass to the Esplanade, folding bollards are to be erected to make the approach more difficult. The Pankow district office should resume negotiations with Deutsche Bahn. The citizens' application was unanimously accepted in September 2013.

It took eight months until the proposed folding bollards were set in spring 2014 with funds from the Senate Department for Urban Development , after which illegal waste dumping fell significantly. The southern access was still closed and the Pankow district office pointed out in its statement that garbage disposal would not be possible there.

In January 2013, the loose network Transition Town Pankow, in close contact with the responsible authorities, began to work out a concept for a neighborhood park called Nasses Dreieck together with the residents and relevant associations and initiatives . On April 8, 2014 there was an information event about the previous plans of the Senate in the town hall of Pankow and the ideas of the young people were put up for discussion. The plans are as follows: On the east side there should be a nature experience room for children from six to 15 years. The Windfall Children's Club has already gathered ideas for this. Climbing, getting to know plants, playing with mud and dogs are not allowed here. On the west side, a picnic area , soccer field , skate track and places to relax are to be created. A fenced-in exercise area for dogs is also planned. In the future, the Berlin Wall Trail will run through the site after the southern access has been opened. The only access to the wet triangle is to be retained in its current form, the passage on Brehmestrasse is to be roofed over and bollards are to be erected to prevent cars from being parked. Access through the Famos allotment garden colony is also being considered. The redesign of the wet triangle depends on the expansion of the Dresden railway in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district , for which the wet triangle is intended as a compensation area .

In May 2014, the Berlin network for green corridors had another opportunity at a BVV meeting to vent their anger over the disinterest of the district office. Then the network itself approached Deutsche Bahn in order to find a solution for the southern access. This turned out to be difficult, as the railway was not interested in a passage and the resulting obligations.

A spring cleaning takes place every year to remove waste.

fauna

At the information event on April 8, 2014 in the Pankow town hall, it was discovered that 50 sand lizards live in the open green space . Deutsche Bahn employees caught the sand lizards, up to 20 centimeters long, individually with a landing net on other construction sites and released them in an area that was previously specially fenced off along the tracks in the direction of Pankow station .
