Natascha Wey

Natascha Wey (born May 3, 1982 ) is a Swiss feminist and politician ( SP ). She is a councilor of the city of Zurich and from 2016 to 2020 she was one of the two co-presidents of the SP Women * on the management of her party. She is the central secretary of the Association of Public Service Personnel (VPOD) .

life and career

Natascha Wey grew up in Untersiggenthal (Canton Aargau ) as the daughter of a single mother. She attended the Wettingen Cantonal School with a focus on new languages. Wey studied history and new German literature at the University of Zurich , making him the first member of the family to graduate from college. During her studies she worked with a 60% workload for the farmers' health insurance fund.

After graduating, Wey completed a traineeship in the editorial office of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung . She later became the central secretary at the VPOD and as such is responsible for the concerns of federal staff and employees in the field of maintenance and cleaning. Wey is also a board member of the specialist agency for trafficking in women and women migration (FIZ) . She lives in Zurich District 2 .

Political career

From 2016 to 2020, Wey was the successor to Yvonne Feri as Co-President of the SP Women * . In 2017, on the centenary of the organization, the SP Women * presented a feminist manifesto under their presidium calling for better compensation for care work, equal pay and the introduction of the 35-hour week. The manifesto was unanimously adopted at the SP party congress, making the demands a key issue for the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland. Also in 2017, Wey launched the hashtag #SchweizerAufschrei against everyday sexism , based on the #Aufschrei campaign by the German feminist Anne Wizorek .

Wey has been a city councilor in Zurich since 2019. She succeeded Felix Stocker, who announced his resignation from this authority on May 15, 2019.
