The Kantonsschule Wettingen (KSWE), commonly known as Kanti Wettingen , is a school in the Canton of Aargau founded in 1976 . At the canton school , both the grammar school and the technical middle school can be attended. The canton school uses the building of the former Maris Stella monastery , which was closed in 1841 and converted into the Wettingen teacher training college . Further classrooms are located in various buildings around the monastery.

Today, almost 1,100 pupils attend the Wettingen cantonal school and complete either the high school training courses in accordance with MAR or the technical secondary school (FMS) with the option of a specialist baccalaureate. The promotion of students with special talents or learning difficulties is a central concern of the school.

The Wettingen Cantonal School has two partner schools : the Pestalozzi-Gymnasium Heidenau and the Amity International School in New Delhi .

history

View of the church tower

After the dissolution of the Cistercian monastery , the Wettingen Teachers' College, which is subordinate to the Canton of Aargau, was built in part of the current premises of the Wettingen Cantonal School . In 1976, the Wettingen Cantonal School was created, which was significantly upgraded and expanded with the introduction of the new Matura types according to MAR 1998.

building

The campus of the Wettingen Cantonal School consists of different buildings on the peninsula in the Wettinger Limmatschlaufe, in the center of which there is a former Cistercian monastery , to which the so-called monastery park belongs.

main building

In the main building there are classrooms on two floors, where mainly geography, history and mathematics are taught. In addition to the classrooms, there is an extensive media library in the main building as well as numerous rooms for instrumental lessons , the offices of the school management and administration of the Wettingen cantonal school, and workplaces for teachers. In the main building there are also computer workstations, common rooms and opportunities for students to lock in school supplies.

The main building was rebuilt from 1990 to 1996. In the process, many historical furnishings were exposed again.

The inner monastery area , with the cloister of the former monastery and the chapter house , which is used as an auditorium , belongs to the rooms of the school. Before the new cafeteria building opened in 2008, the main building also housed a cafeteria (in the former Brudersaal) and the cafeteria.

Old spinning mill

In the old spinning mill, a former cotton mill, the Wettingen cantonal school has rented numerous four-storey classrooms in which mainly languages, economics and law as well as natural science subjects (biology, physics) are taught. In addition to several common rooms for teachers, there are also computer workstations for students in the school area of the Alte Spinnerei.

Rooms on the lower floors of the old spinning mill are rented to craft businesses and artists. The small brewery "Lägerebräu" is also located in a small outbuilding.

Canteen Löwenscheune

New canteen Löwenscheune

The new cafeteria (on the second floor) and a cafeteria (on the ground floor) are located in the former farm building of the monastery, the listed Löwenscheune. They form a central meeting place for the school. They were opened at the beginning of the 2008/2009 school year because a significant increase in the number of pupils at the Wettingen Cantonal School made this additional building necessary. In the cafeteria with 220 seats, the students and teachers of the school are catered for in the family table system, the cafeteria offers space for 130 people. Both the cafeteria and the cafeteria are operated by a cooperative founded especially for this purpose.

The facade of the extension to the lion barn is adorned with the work of art "Ornament" by Roland Herzog , which was created as part of Kunst am Bau .

West creatures

The Westschöpf, opposite the new cafeteria, serve primarily as a rehearsal location for the theater performances. In the West Schöpf both public theater and dance appearances take place, as well as performances by the school theater group. Various information events also take place in the Westschöpf, as well as the presentations of some diploma and Matura theses.

Palazzo

The Palazzo , located directly on the Limmat, used to be the practice building of the Wettingen seminar. Today these rooms are mainly used for arts and crafts classes (large workshop in the basement), while language subjects are mainly taught in the two classrooms on the ground floor.

During the annual summer night festival, the palazzo is transformed into a dance palace with music and a dance area.

Customs House

The customs house is a building built in 1767 that served as a bridge toll on the Limmat. It was rebuilt in 2000. Today it houses classrooms, in which mainly artistic design and English are taught.

Riverside

Building on the Limmat in Wettingen, in which the "Riverside" classrooms of the Wettingen Cantonal School are housed.

The classrooms on the Limmat were completely renovated in 2012 after they had previously housed the private City University of Seattle.

Long construction

Chemistry is taught in three classrooms in the two buildings of the long building complex (former rope factory of Wettingen Abbey ). There is also a well-equipped laboratory, a small library, a collection and a Silentium.

Training courses and offer

The four-year training at the Wettingen Cantonal School is divided into two parts, each lasting two years, the basic level and the study level. This corresponds to the conditions of the Matura recognition regulations ( MAR ).

In the basic level you mainly attend basic subjects; the selectable accent subject (compulsory) usually determines the division into a department (class).

In the study level, the focus is on the electives, in particular on the major and supplementary subjects.

The grammar school course at the Wettingen Cantonal School offers the opportunity to study a selection of subjects immersively (immersion language English). Since 2010, the Wettingen Cantonal School has also offered the International Baccalaureate Diploma as a double degree (Matura and IB diploma).

Four vocational fields are offered at the Fachmittelschule . The apprenticeship is followed by a one-year course for the specialist maturity.

Since 2009 she has been running a program to promote the gifted ( “Maris Stella” ) under the patronage of the Swiss Society for the Promotion of the Gifted.

Partnerships

The Wettingen Cantonal School has two exchange projects:

  • Since 2002 there have been regular mutual visits and exchange projects between teachers and students with the Pestalozzi-Gymnasium Heidenau .
  • The partnership with Beijing No. 19 Middle School was maintained between 2004 and 2015. At that time, Chinese was offered as an optional subject at the Wettingen Cantonal School for the first time. Students and teachers from both schools take part in regular exchange projects and visits.
  • The Wettingen Cantonal School participates in a student exchange with the Canton of Vaud .

Former club Pro Kanti Wettingen

The Pro Kanti Wettingen association, founded in 1988, has around 580 former students. The association supports the Wettingen Cantonal School financially in special projects and annually awards the ExPri, which honors students who volunteer for school and school life. In addition, the association organizes the study information event every November, at which alumni give current students information about their studies.

Special school events

A school culture is maintained at the Wettingen Cantonal School, in which students and teachers regularly present life at the school to interested parties.

Important school productions are the dance performance “Let's Move” and theater projects that change every year.

The summer night festival takes place annually after the summer holidays on the monastery peninsula. In class projects, students are involved in the set-up, decoration, entertainment and gastronomy of the festival with around 2000 paying guests.

The school also has its own traditional concert cycle: the Wettinger Summer Concerts involve students from the Wettingen Cantonal School.

Communication and public relations

The Wettingen Cantonal School is systematically developing internal and external communication. Since 2016 she has been running a YouTube information channel with the participation of students.
