The Pestalozzi-Gymnasium Heidenau is a school in the Saxon city of Heidenau , which was named after the pedagogue Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi . The school building was inaugurated in 1902, and in 1920 it was named Pestalozzi School . After the fall of the Wall in 1992, the teaching facility advanced to a grammar school . In addition to the mathematical and scientific profile, it also offers the sporting profile for students from Heidenau, Dohna , the Müglitztal , parts of Dresden , Pirna and other places around Heidenau. In 2014 over 550 students attended the grammar school and around 50 teachers work here. Two buildings are operated, one the main building on Hauptstrasse and the other the branch at the Bruno-Gleißberg-Grundschule .

history

The foundation stone of the school was laid on April 23, 1901 on the occasion of the birthday of King Albert of Saxony. The then headmaster Otto Weberie inaugurated the school on August 19, 1902. Then it was an elementary school with 691 students and 11 teachers. During the First World War , the sports hall belonging to the school served as a small military hospital for the local Johanniter Hospital to accommodate the war wounded. On April 1, 1920, the towns of Heidenau , Mügeln and Gommern formed the town of Heidenau and at the same time the administration of the new town gave the facility the name Pestalozzischule. During the Second World War there were very irregular teaching times. Among other things, pupils from the Großsedlitz school were accepted into the Pestalozzi School, as their school was used as a hospital . In 1945 the school served as an emergency shelter for over 1000 people who had fled the Red Army . Lessons took place in alternative locations or were completely omitted. On May 8, 1945, the Red Army marched into the city, soldiers of the Wehrmacht holed up in the school's bell tower with a bazooka . Out of disappointment at the lost war, they used this to destroy the school clock.

In 1946 a new elementary school curriculum came into effect at the school, and in the same year the school was renamed Pestalozzi Oberschule Heidenau . Due to the increased use of the school gym, it was given an extension with changing rooms and washrooms. The handover took place on June 16, 1959. With the political change and the re-establishment of the Free State of Saxony , the school structures of the old Federal Republic were introduced in the former GDR . So it came to the formation of performance classes in 1991. On February 4, the city of Heidenau applied to the Ministry of Education for a high school. Grades 1 to 4 moved to a separate elementary school , so that the 90th anniversary of the college was named a grammar school on September 10, 1992. The course system has existed at the school since 1992, with the result that in 1993 the first students were able to take their Abitur. In the flood year 2002, the school served to accommodate evacuees living near the Elbe and as a command center for some rescue workers. In 2002 a two-field sports hall was completed at the grammar school. In 2005 the 7th grade moved to the main building, the 5th and 6th grade should follow after an extension was completed. The branch office would then have benefited the Bruno Gleißberg Elementary School. Without the extension, there will not be classrooms in the main building for all grades (a total of 24, including several specialist rooms (2 × chemistry, 2 × physics, 1 × biology, 1 universal multimedia room, 2 × computer science)). Construction of the extension should begin in mid / late 2010. The reason for the imprecise date and time was the uncertain situation in the city budget. On January 22nd, 2010, however, it was announced that the plan would be put on hold until further notice, as the Sächsische Aufbaubank (SAB) had not approved the funding. Heidenau alone cannot bear the costs of 4.5 million euros, so the cultivation is a long way off again.

classes

Natural sciences

The grammar school teaches the students biology , chemistry , mathematics , geography and physics , and also astronomy before they are included in physics . The mathematical and scientific profile not only promotes the teaching materials for these subjects, but also the knowledge of the students. For this purpose, special specialist cabinets are available that are equipped with specific tables, TV sets and new boards.

While German and English are compulsory subjects at school, you can choose between French and Russian lessons. The school is equipped with the necessary dictionaries and other specialist books.

Social sciences

For history and social studies are also relevant specialist areas. Of course, the students at this school can choose freely between ethics and Protestant or Catholic religion .

Extracurricular offer

School festival

The school festival has been taking place every year since 2007, and in 2009 the school sponsorship association decided, after a survey, to only hold the school festival every 2 years.

Open-door day

The open day always takes place on a Saturday in January . The students and teachers of the grammar school present the school primarily to the 4th grade students who have to register for a further school career at a secondary school in the following months (see educational recommendation ).

Expresso theater company

The theater group of the Pestalozzi-Gymnasium has existed since 1992, which originally emerged from the teaching subject of performing games.

The generations of theater groups have already performed a great many performances. The piece in search of traces , which is supposed to be a sad reminder of the deportations in the Third Reich , was particularly successful . The theater group traveled to Israel to research and obtained information from the Jewish population on the subject. For the engagement in the German-Israeli exchange there was an award from the Federal President . With the play, the group entered the youth theater competition of the federal states for the Free State of Saxony .

Heidenauer Christmas singing

In 1907 there were the first public Christmas celebrations, which were repeated irregularly in the following years. Since 1922 there have been thematic performances for Christmas . The annual Christmas singing has existed since 1994 and is comparable to the present one.

Designed by students and teachers of the grammar school, one performance (two performances since 2008, as the number of seats in the auditorium was reduced due to fire protection conditions) always takes place on the Friday before the second or third Advent in December, and two more on the following Saturday (all performances in the afternoon / evening ). The auditorium is well attended on the four dates, tickets are almost only available in advance sales , which take place in the foyer of the new sports hall on the Saturday before the first Advent in the morning, as the events are in most cases already sold out on that day. On the days of the event, remaining tickets may be available from the cloakroom in the foyer. The school is being decorated for Christmas singing, and a large Christmas pyramid has been in the foyer for several years . There is always a café and several stalls selling food and drinks, among other things. A stand donates the money collected from the sale of mulled wine to the partner school in Belarus ( Drink for Belarus ). There are also craft offers.

Sports

Once a year (previously twice a year) the Heidenau bike tour attracts visitors. You can choose from a wide variety of routes between 25 and 160 km. For several years now, the Pestalozzi-Gymnasium has been winning the trophy for the school with the most participating students. In 2015 the bike tour was canceled due to a criminal complaint filed by the district against the organizer in 2014 and for private reasons of the organizer, since then the event has not taken place for the time being.

The school also takes part in competitions such as youth training for the Olympics . For several years now, the 1-euro volleyball tournament on the last day of school of the year before the Christmas holidays has also been a tradition.

Activities and partnerships

Once a year, students taking Russian lessons go to Belarus and, in return, offer accommodation for students from Orsha in Heidenau. The exchange lasts one week at a time.

A partnership agreement has existed with the Technical University of Dresden since 1998 .

In addition, the students take part in various competitions every year, such as the Math, Physics and Chemistry Olympiad and the kangaroo competition.

As part of the lessons, once a year the week of subject-related lessons (different topics in the individual grade levels, which are dealt with in different subjects) and the day of natural sciences (the 11th grade students have to give lectures that are assessed on scientific matters , The remaining students have to attend a certain number of lectures. For this purpose, a registration procedure was developed, which has already been changed several times, as the lectures were particularly overcrowded in the morning, whereas only a few students attended the lectures at lunchtime.

There have been partnerships with Swiss schools ( Kantonsschule Wettingen ) since 2002 and there are also short student exchanges.

A tradition is also extracurricular advanced training for students, such as B. Visiting the Saxon state parliament, attending court hearings, various art and music excursions and getting to know the Dresden Botanical Garden. The annual rounds of talks with Heidenau's mayor Jürgen Opitz ( CDU ) are also worth highlighting .

The 11th grade courses also take part in various study trips. Depending on the offer, the students can choose whether they want to go to Weimar, Munich, France or to the tourist camp.

Awards

On November 24, 2014, the grammar school, along with two other schools in Saxony, was recognized as a MINT-friendly school, of which there are around 900 throughout Germany. Accordingly, the Pestalozzi-Gymnasium Heidenau offers particularly high-quality natural science lessons.
