Nation is an underground station of the Paris Métro . It is located on the border of the 11th arrondissement with the 12th arrondissement below the Place de la Nation . The station is an important transfer hub in the east of Paris , it is served by lines 1 , 2 , 6 and  9 . At the same underground linked station Nation of Réseau Express Régional can the RER A are switched.

History and description

line 1

The station went into operation on July 19, 1900 with the opening of Line 1 from Porte Maillot to Porte de Vincennes . The trains initially ran every ten minutes, during rush hour the train intervals were only reduced to six minutes, and from the end of January 1901 to three minutes. They initially consisted of a two-axle railcar with only one driver's cab, which pulled two, then soon three two-axle sidecars. From the end of October 1901, the trains were further extended before the Sprague-Thomson series was used from 1908 to 1964 . Vehicles that run on nitrogen- filled rubber tires have been running the driverless, automatic trains of the MP 05 series since 1963 .

The station on line 1 is located in an east-west direction under the southern part of the circular square. It has side platforms on the two mainline tracks, of which the northern one was directly connected to a side platform in the station of line 2 via passageways.

Line 2

Line 2, coming from its western terminus, Porte Dauphine , has reached Nation station since April 2, 1903. Due to its function as the eastern terminus of this line, more extensive facilities than for line 1 were created. An almost circular tunnel was built under the square, which accommodated two parallel tracks. The main tracks flow into this facility, the inner track and two other tracks are mainly used to park trains. Operating tracks branch off from the outer track, which forms the counter-clockwise end loop , to lines 1 and 9 and to the Atelier de Charonne depot .

The terminus of line 2 is in the arch within the final loop, it has a central platform for arrival and departure. The southern side platform, on which there was a connecting track to lines 1 and 9, is no longer used. The trains used belong to the MF 01 series .

Line 6

On March 1, 1909, the station followed line 6. It is parallel to that of line 1 to the south and, like that of line 2, in a double-track end loop, which, however, goes around several blocks south of Place de la Nation under the adjacent streets. In the entrance to the station, which has a central platform, a connecting track branches off to line 1.

During rush hour , the two platform tracks are approached alternately. Unlike the Line 2 trains make in the off-peak periods to an operating platform west of the station head and return in the opposite direction, as the tracks of the loop is then used for the parking of trains. The trains on Line 6 run on rubber tires, they belong to the MP 73 series .

Line 9

The last extension of the station was the opening of the station section of line 9 on December 10, 1933. Its station was built at a greater depth below the end loop of line 2 in the northern area of ​​the square. There is an operating track for that line, which is underpassed by the main track west of the station.

Line 9 station has side platforms. Trains from the MF 67 series operate , which have been gradually replaced by the MF 01 series since 2013 .

1981 accident

On February 6, 1981, a train driver was killed in a collision in the station.
