The 60th season of the National League A began in September 2008 and ended in May 2009. The reigning champions of the 2007/08 season, ZMC Amicitia Zurich , were able to defend their title. The relegation from the NLA had to accept promoted HC Yellow-Black Stäfa and the record champions Grasshopper Club Zurich .

National League A

Twelve teams are represented in the top division, the National League A. The championship was divided into two phases. In the main round, all teams played a simple round-trip round against every opponent (22 rounds). After that, the league was divided into two groups.

The first six teams played in the final round for the championship title, while the last six teams had to fight relegation.
