The National Stadium of East Timor ( Portuguese Estádio Nacional de Timor-Leste , also: Estádio Municipal de Dili ) is a multi-purpose stadium in East Timor's capital, Dili . It is located on Avenida Xavier do Amaral (formerly Avenida Bispo Medeiros ) in the Audian district ( Suco Santa Cruz , administrative office Nain Feto ) and belongs to the Federação Futebol Timor-Leste .
overview
The stadium, which was renovated in 2011, has a capacity of 5,000. The space is difficult because the subsoil consists of rock and there is only a thin sward of grass with an often dry lawn above it. In addition, there are the climatic conditions with sometimes high temperatures and heavy rainfall in the rainy season .
use
The stadium is primarily used for football matches. The finals of the national leagues Taça Digicel and Super Liga Timorense are played here. The only official home game of the national team of East Timor so far took place in the stadium of Gianyar on Bali ( Indonesia ).
From April 29 to May 2, 2010, the Timor Sea Cup took place in the stadium , with teams from Dili, Kupang (Indonesia) and Darwin ( Australia ) participating. Before that, there were games between the East Timor's U17 team and a selection from the US Navy, as well as a tournament in which the East Timor national team, a UN police selection team and an Australian- New Zealand team took part. In the first qualification for the 2018 World Cup , East Timor's national soccer team defeated Mongolia's national soccer team 4-1 in front of a home crowd on March 12, 2015 .
All games of the Liga Futebol Amadora Primeira Divisão 2016 were played in the national stadium.
In 2002 Kylie Minogue and John Farnham appeared at the stadium. In 2006 there was a camp for the refugees in the stadium due to the unrest at the time .
