The nature reserve Grebensteine near Willingen with a size of 15.70 ha is located south of Willingen in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district . The nature reserve (NSG) was designated in 1985. It lies within the Diemelsee Nature Park . It is part of the FFH area NSG complex near Willingen (DE 4718-301). The NSG is located on the eastern slope of the Ittertal and directly adjacent to the Mühlenkopfschanze . To the southwest it borders directly on the Alter Hagen nature reserve near Willingen .
Area description
The NSG is a canyon forest with a primeval forest-like character and a montane high herbaceous flora. The Grebensteine, individual rocks that rise steeply in the middle and upper part of the slope, give the name. There are some springs in the lower slope.
Protection purpose
According to the nature reserve designation, the area was established as a nature reserve because of its importance for botany. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
