The Holzbachaue nature reserve extends along the Holzbachstrasse between the federal motorway 4 to just before Mittelbech in the district of Steinenbrück in the town of Overath in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis .

The nature reserve includes the floodplain of the Holzbach , which has a very well developed and species-rich wet and humid grassland with tall herbaceous vegetation.

The protection designation takes place for the maintenance and development of a species-rich wet and humid grassland. It refers to

• securing the function as a biotope network area of particular importance,
• the maintenance and development of the stream and
• the maintenance and development of the extensively used, sometimes very species-rich wet and humid grassland.
