The Schlingenbachtal nature reserve extends between Vilkerath and Schalken . The Schlingenbach flows through it. To the west of the former Schlingenthaler Mühle , it is divided into two parts by a fish pond on Landstrasse 153 .

description

The area covers almost the entire course of the Schlingenbach until shortly before its confluence with the Agger, including its floodplain . It is located in a very wooded area with extensive spruce and beech forests , which also cover most of the valley slopes and are only interrupted by individual hamlets and their grassland areas.

The western half of the nature reserve is predominantly characterized by meadow grassland. The grassland is to be found largely near-natural with different levels of moisture and is meandering through the Schlingenbach.

The eastern section is dominated by springy, wet alder forest and spruce forests . To the east, open land first occurs again in the vicinity of the springs on the plateau. Most of it is still used as pasture for cattle, horses or sheep.

Protective purposes

The protection designation serves to maintain and develop a brook valley with extensive floodplain grassland and small alder forests as well as to restore near-natural floodplain and hillside forests.

The following protection purposes are specified:

  • Preservation and safeguarding of the following habitats: rivers , riparian forests , headwaters, wet and wet grassland, breakage and swamp forests ,
  • Securing the function as a biotope network area of outstanding importance,
  • Preservation and development of a near-natural stream and its floodplain
  • Conservation, development and restoration of semi-natural alluvial and hillside forests,
  • Preservation and development of the mostly moist grassland in the Bachaue and in the source areas.
