The Schlingenbach is a 6.2 km long orographic left tributary of the Agger in Overath and partly in Engelskirchen , North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

geography

The source of the Schlingenbach is located on the northeast flank of the Kleiner Heckberg at an altitude of 323  m above sea level. NN . The next town, Federath, is about 1 km southwest of the source. From the source the stream flows primarily in a westerly direction, changing direction several times to flow around the surrounding mountains. On the right and left sides, the Schlingenbach takes on the smaller streams flowing off these heights. Without touching localities on its way, the stream flows across from Vilkerath at 108  m above sea level. NN in the Agger .

The Schlingenbach overcomes 215 meters in altitude on its 6.2 km long path, which corresponds to an average bed gradient of 34.7 ‰.

The Schlingenbachtal is largely free of traffic routes. District road 37 runs in the valley only for the last kilometer. Shortly before the mouth, the valley is crossed by the 230 m long Schlingenbach bridge. The A4 motorway crosses this bridge .

natural reserve

With the exception of a short section northeast of the Schlingenthal location in Overath, the entire course of the stream from the source area to the mouth lies within the Schlingenbachtal nature reserve , which also includes smaller tributaries and adjacent areas. In a further section between Schlingenthal and the Engelskirchen locality Niederhof , the meandering brook forms the municipality boundary and at the same time the border between the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis and the Oberbergischer Kreis . On the Engelskirchen side there is the nature reserve Oberes Schlingenbachtal (NSG GM-070).
