Rennacken nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rennacken nature reserve is a 6.34 hectare nature reserve (NSG) southwest of Gleierbrück in the municipality of Lennestadt . The area was created in 2006 with the landscape plan Elsper Senke - Lennebergland. No. 2 by the district of Olpe as (NSG) designated.

description

The NSG is the steep, north-facing ridge of the Rennacken mountain range that slopes down to the Lennetal . It is a deciduous forest with small rocky areas covered with mosses, lichens and ferns. Due to the cool, humid local climate, parts of the area are rare canyon forests and shady slope forests. There are also areas with red beech in the NSG. There are also spruce forest areas between these deciduous forest areas.

In hardwood stands over 120 years old, up to ten strong old trees per hectare, especially eyrie and cave trees, are to be determined and left as old or dead wood in the stands for the decay phase.

Protection purpose

The NSG is intended to protect this forest area with beech forests, ravine and shady slope forests as well as its typical animal and plant species. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
