The Wunderwäldchen is a field wood in the Olpe district in North Rhine-Westphalia that has been designated a nature reserve . It is located south of the Lenne in the border area between the two cities of Attendorn and Lennestadt . The closest localities are Röllecken (Attendorn) in the west and Grevenbrück (Lennestadt) in the east.

Spring vegetation in the wonder forest

The beech-oak forest, which covers a total of 0.73 hectares , grows on weathered carbonate soil and has a species-rich forest flora. Individual occurrences of the common hazel root are particularly worth protecting .

The wonder forest has been a nature reserve since 1981. Two nature reserves, separated from one another only by the municipal boundary, are designated:

  • The northern part of the area in Attendorn is listed as Wunderwäldchen (LP) under the identification NSG OE-041 and is around 0.4 hectares in size.
  • The southern part of the area in Lennestadt is listed as Wunderwäldchen (VO) under the identification NSG OE-014 and is around 0.3 hectares in size.
