The Bärenloch nature reserve is a 20.79 hectare nature reserve (NSG) southwest of Milchenbach in the municipality of Lennestadt . The area was created in 2006 with the landscape plan Elsper Senke - Lennebergland. No. 2 designated as NSG by the district of Olpe .

description

The nature reserve is the steep, east-exposed slope areas of the Kahlenberg with a 100 to 120 year old natural beech forest with a typical hall structure and parts of dead wood. The area is mostly at an altitude of 510 to 680  m above sea level. NN . In the nature reserve there is a deeply incised sieve with a natural stream, small-scale spring outlets and typical vegetation. The stream drains the area up to 440 m down to the Milchenbach as a receiving water , a left tributary of the Lenne .

In hardwood stands over 120 years old, up to ten strong old trees per hectare, especially eyrie and cave trees, are to be determined and left as old or dead wood in the stands for the decay phase.

Protection purpose

The nature reserve is intended to protect this wooded area with beech forests and its typical flora and fauna. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
