Area description

Holzer cliffs

The nature reserve consists of 3 areas. In the first area in the northern part is the steep and deep incised brook valley of a quellsiefen , the Hölterfelder Siefen . Deciduous forest extends on the valley slopes and along the course of the stream there is a narrow wet grassland fallow . The second area, the Fürberger Bachtal and the Fürsiefen , lies south of the first area. The Fürsiefen first flows through a deciduous forest and then runs through the Bachtal in an open meadow valley with an extensive lean grassland complex . This area contains remnants of the endangered biotope type grass grass . Since these areas are not cultivated, they are now in a natural state.

The third area is the lower Morsbach valley . Here you can find alluvial forest remains , ponds, wet and humid grassland and strips of wood made of alder and ash along the stream. On the steep slopes there are groups of oak and hornbeam or beech, oak and maple . It is the most natural section in this area. In the wide loops there are steep banks but also scour pools and gravel banks .

The near-natural streams of the Morsbachaue as well as their springs and the grassland areas receive special protection. Also the conservation of animal and plant species and the geological and morphological features such as the Holzer Klippen , these are designated as natural monuments in Remscheid, they extend over 300 meters in width and are around 400 million years old.
