The forest and heathland east of Bodenwöhr and Bruck id OPf is a nature reserve near Bodenwöhr in the Upper Palatinate district of Schwandorf in Bavaria .
The 283 hectare site coincides with the used until 2007 training area Bodenwöhr on which a forest and heathland could develop. It is located 3 kilometers east of the center of Bodenwöhr, north of the B85 . It is part of the Upper Bavarian Forest Nature Park and the Upper Bavarian Forest Protected Landscape Area .
This landscape is home to a mosaic of warmth- loving sandy pine forests , dry fringing structures, dwarf shrub heaths , sandy grasslands and alternately moist hollows. The close intermeshing of open and forest habitats, the nutrient-poor soil conditions as well as the decades-long open and dynamic due to the former military use enabled the settlement of a highly specialized and nationwide rare animal and plant world. The area represents a valuable refuge for species that are not viable in other locations that are rich in vegetation and nutrients. Due to the extensive expansion of the poor forest and heathland landscapes on sites, the area represents a significant area of the Bavarian dry biotope network and contributes to the maintenance and development of stable populations of this sensitive biocenosis . The occurrence of large inland sand lawns is unique in the entire district.
The nature reserve was designated on June 4, 2016.
