Neil Hamilton Dewar (born November 11, 1908 in Lochgilphead , Argyllshire , † January 10, 1982 ibid) was a Scottish football player . The striker played for professional clubs in Scotland and England and made three appearances for the Scottish national team.

Career

Dewar grew up in the fishing village of Lochgilphead on Loch Fyne and began his professional career at the age of 21 with the Scottish second division club Third Lanark . In 1931 he rose to the top Scottish league with Lanark and immediately finished 4th. In January 1933, Dewar left his Scottish homeland after 120 goals in four seasons and moved to England for £ 5,000 to Manchester United in the Football League Second Division . By the end of the year he scored 14 goals in 36 league appearances before he was transferred to the First Division in December 1933 in exchange for Jack Ball to Sheffield Wednesday .

While he finished third in the table with Sheffield in 1935, the rankings deteriorated dramatically in the following two years. In 1936 they were third from bottom, in 1937 they were relegated from bottom of the table from the top English division and Dewar returned to his first professional club Third Lanark after 84 appearances. In 1940 he resigned from active football.

1932 brought Dewar to three internationals for the Scottish national team . He made his debut on April 9, 1932 as part of the British Home Championship 1932 against England (final score 0: 3). A month later he scored a flawless hat trick in a friendly against France at the Stade Olympique de Colombes in his country's 3-1 win. Also in his third and last international match in October 1932, he contributed a goal, but his country selection was defeated by Wales in the British Home Championship 1933 with 2: 5.
