Nelli Aghinjan ( Armenian Նելլի Աղինյան ; born August 4, 1981 in Yerevan ) is an Armenian chess player .

Aghinjan is a member of the successful Armenian women's national team. In 1996 she played (for the second Armenian team) her first women's chess Olympiad in her hometown of Yerevan . Until 2010 she took part in seven Chess Olympiads with a personal overall result of 28 points from 53 games (+18 = 20 −15). Since 2003 she has played in five women's team championships . The 2003 European Championship in Plovdiv was won by Armenia with Nelli Aghinjan as reserve player. In 2007 in Heraklion , the team won a bronze medal, including Aghinjan's victory on the third board in the last round against the almost 200 Elo points higher Georgian Nino Khurzidze , through which Armenia achieved a 2-2. At the women's team championship in 2007 in Yekaterinburg she also played on board three, in 2009 in Ningbo on board four, and in 2011 in Mardin she was reserve player. She plays club chess in Armenia for MIKA Yerevan , with whom she won the Armenian team championship in 2005 and twice took part in the women's European Club Cup, which she won in 2006 in Fügen .

In 2001 Nelli Aghinjan became International Women's Champion (WIM), and since May 2005 she has held the title of Grand Master of Women (WGM). She achieved the standards for the WGM title in 2004 at two tournaments ( categories 10 and 11) in Alushta with overachievement and at the A2 tournament of the Aeroflot Open 2005 in Moscow (category 9).

She is listed as inactive at the World Chess Federation FIDE (as of June 2020), because she has not played an Elo-rated game since the 4th open Greek championship in Vrachati in August 2014 .
