Nello Fabbri

Nello Fabbri (born March 15, 1934 in Rome ; † January 30, 2020 there ) was an Italian cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Fabbri was Italian champion in the street race of amateurs in 1953 . When Emiel van Cauter won the UCI Road World Championships in 1954 in Solingen , he was classified as 8th.

From 1954 to 1963 he was a professional , his most important successes were the victories in the Toscana Tour in 1956 and in the Milan – Turin race in 1959, when he started for the Bianchi cycling team and won ahead of Guido Carlesi . Despite these successes, his role was that of a typical domestics , he worked for team leaders such as Gastone Nencini and Ercole Baldini .

He competed in the Tour de France in 1959 and was 42nd overall, as well as in 1960 , when he was eliminated. He  drove the Giro d'Italia seven times, only retired once and with 11th place in 1957 he had his best placement in the tour.

His best placement among the monuments of cycling was 10th at Milan – San Remo in 1958.
