Neptune City is a small town in Monmouth County ( New Jersey ) in the United States . At the time of the United States Census 2010 , the population of Neptune City was 4869. Neptune City is governed as a borough (a form of municipality occurring in New Jersey). The governing body consists of a mayor and a six-member district council, with all positions being elected on a partisan basis.

history

Neptune City was founded on October 4, 1881 based on a referendum on March 19, 1881. The boundaries included all of what is now Neptune City, what is now Avon-by-the-Sea, and the southern part of Bradley Beach . On March 23, 1900, Avon-by-the-Sea was created by a bill passed by the New Jersey Legislature. On March 13, 1907, the eastern part of Neptune City was annexed to Borough Bradley Beach. The place was named after Neptune , the Roman water deity, due to its location on the Atlantic Ocean.

Demographics

At the 2010 United States census, there were 4,869 people and 2,133 households. The composition of Neptune City was 78.00 percent (3,798) white, 10.62 percent (517) black or African American, 0.23 percent (11) Native American, 4.46 percent (217) Asian, 0.02 percent ( 1) Pacific Islanders, 3.88 percent (189) from other races, and 2.79 percent (136) belonged to two or more races. Hispanics or Latinos of any race made up 10.08 percent (491) of the population.
