Ner Middleswarth

Ner Middleswarth (born December 12, 1783 in New Jersey , †  June 2, 1865 in Beavertown , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1853 and 1855 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ner Middleswarth came to Beavertown, Pennsylvania, in his youth. He received only a limited education. During the British-American War of 1812 he was a captain in the American armed forces. Between 1815 and 1841 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania ; in the years 1828 and 1836 he was its speaker . He then completed a legislative term in the State Senate . He joined the Whig Party , founded in the 1830s .

In the congressional elections of 1852 Middleswarth was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the tenth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded the Democrat Milo Melankthon Dimmick on March 4, 1853 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1854, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1855 . This was shaped by the events leading up to the civil war . After the Whigs dissolved, he became a member of the Republican Party .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Middleswarth worked, among other things, in agriculture. He also became president of Beaver Furnace Co. In 1858, he became an associate judge in Snyder County . Ner Middleswarth died in Beavertown on June 2, 1865. He had twelve children with his wife Christina Schwartzkop.
