Nereo Laroni

Nereo Laroni (born September 2, 1942 in Venice ; † July 14, 2019 in Mestre ) was the socialist mayor of Venice from 1985 to 1987 , replacing Mario Rigo . From 1989 he was a member of the European Parliament, since 2005 in the Council of the Veneto Region .

Laroni was assessore ai lavori pubblici and therefore responsible for the public works in Venice. He supported Bettino Craxi and Gianni De Michelis and was elected mayor for their Partito Socialista Italiano in 1985. In 1987 Laroni pleaded for the abolition of the Venice Carnival . In the same year Craxi was overthrown and Laroni's tenure also ended.

From 1989 to 1994 he was a member of the European Parliament. There he was vice-president of the delegation for relations with Yugoslavia , then for relations with the group of states Egypt , Palestine / Israel , Jordan , Lebanon , Syria and Iraq ( Mashrek ). He is also a member of various commissions.

In 2000 he joined the Nuovo Partito Socialista Italiano , a merger of the Partito Socialista and the Lega Socialista . In the regional elections in 2005 he was elected to the Consiglio regional del Veneto , where he supported its president Giancarlo Galan . In 2010 he was re -elected as a supporter of Luca Zaia , a partisan of Silvio Berlusconi .
