The Nesjøen is a reservoir in Norway . It belongs to the municipality of Tydal in the province of Trøndelag and borders the Sylan Mountains to the east . The surface of the lake has an area of 65.41 km² and depending on the water level is up to 729  moh. The lake is part of the Nea-Nidelvvassdraget and drains over the Nea in the south-western part of the lake. The closest localities are the village of Stugudalen, about 6.5 km away, southwest of Nesjøen, and the administrative center of Tydal municipality, the village of Ås , about 10 km northwest of the lake. Nesjøen is a popular spot for sport fishing .

General

Lake Nesjøen is a reservoir in Norway . It belongs to the municipality of Tydal in the province of Trøndelag and is located in the far east, a few kilometers from the Sylan Mountains and the Swedish border. The lake surface has an area of 65.41 km², with a circumference of 113.59 km and is depending on the water level at 729  moh. (highest regulated water level) or to 722.4 moh. (lowest regulated water level). Under certain circumstances the water level can in exceptional cases to 706 moh. be lowered.

The lake is part of the Nea-Nidelvvassdraget and is fed by the numerous small streams in its 681.32 km² catchment area. It drains over the southwestern part of the lake into the Nea . This in turn feeds the Nidelva and thus the water of the Nesjøen flows into the Trondheimfjord , as part of the European North Sea .

The Nesjøen actually consists of two parts or lakes that merged into one lake when the Neas was dammed in 1971.

Esandsjøen

Esandsjøen (also Essansjøen ; South Sami Saantenjaevrie ) was a former 27 km² lake in the northern part of today's Nesjøen Lake. It was a reservoir that was created by damming the natural Esandsjøen, which was originally 18 km² in size. On behalf of the Trondheim Energiverk , the Esna River was dammed with a dam that was built between 1941 and 1947. The reason for the damming was the generation of electrical energy with a hydroelectric power station .

After the completion of the Nea Dam to damming Lake Nesjøen, the newly created dam area merged with Esandsjøen in 1971. Nowadays the name Essandsjøen is still used to distinguish the northern from the southern part of Nesjøen.

Nesjøen

The Nesjøen in its present form was created by the damming of the Neas. The total duration for the realization of the project lasted from the granting of the concession in 1968 to the final completion in 1971. The lake itself was created with the flooding of 38.7 km² of terrain in 1970. Part of this area was 3.8 km² of flowing water as well as several smaller lakes. In the course of the land flooding, the Nedalshytta had to be relocated and rebuilt.

fauna

The Nesjøen is a very fish-rich body of water with many fish species that are exceptional for Central Norway in both their size and their condition. The largest populations in the lake are trout , burbot , arctic char and minnows . The most important food sources for fish populations, especially in spring, are the numerous mosquitoes and later in summer the populations of water fleas and insects floating on the lake surface.

tourism

Not far from the lake there are two DNT hiking huts , in the north of the lake the Storerikvolle turisthytte and in the south the Nedalshytta , which is very popular as a starting point for tours in the Sylan Mountains .
