The Nea ( Swedish Nean ) is a 80 km long river that flows from the Swedish border in a westerly direction through Tydal and Selbu in Fylke Trøndelag . It has its origins east of the Sylsjøen reservoir in Sweden, then flows through the two reservoirs Nesjøen and Vessingsjøen before it receives the Tya tributary in Tydal. It follows the Tydalen and takes 15 km from the mouth into the Selbusjøen the Rotla on. The continuation of the Nea, i.e. the outflow from the Selbusjøen, then forms the Nidelva . Thus the Nea represents the upper part of the Nea-Nidelv river system.
The Nea is a very popular river for fishing. Fish weighing 1.5 to 2 kg are common, but there are also specimens weighing 5 to 6 kg.
