Neslihan Asutay-Effenberger
Neslihan Asutay-Effenberger (* 1959 in Istanbul as Neslihan Asutay ) is a Turkish Byzantine art historian .
Life
After graduating from the Üsküdar high school in Istanbul in 1979, she studied art history , minor subjects Turkish-Islamic art, Byzantine art history and English philology at the University of Istanbul . With the work Yalova´da Kara Kilise (The black church in Yalova. A monograph on buildings) by Semavi Eyice , she received her master's degree from Istanbul University in 1985 . After completing his doctorate in 1993 at the University of Bonn with the dissertation Templonanlagen in the cave churches of Cappadocia under the supervision of Horst Hallensleben and the Habilitation 2005 at the Free University of Berlin , Department of Byzantine Studies , with the habilitation thesis Die Landmauer von Konstantinopel. Studies of topography, architecture, masonry and building materials by Diether Roderich Reinsch , she was awarded the Venia Legendi for Byzantine art and archeology. In Turkey 2007 she was admitted to the title of Associated Professor (extended Venia Legendi: Byzantine Art and Archeology and Turkish-Islamic Art). In 2011 she received her habilitation at the Ruhr University Bochum , where she was appointed adjunct professor in 2016. Since the summer semester 1993 she has been teaching at the universities of Mainz , Bonn , Berlin , Bochum , Paderborn , Konya and Zurich . For research stays she stayed in Turkey, Greece, Italy and the USA.
Her main research interests are Byzantine architecture, Byzantine military architecture, Byzantine topography of Constantinople, cultural transfer in the medieval Mediterranean area, and Ottoman and Seljuk architecture.
