Nestore Pelicelli

Nestore Pelicelli (born September 17, 1871 in Colorno , † September 27, 1937 in Parma ) was an Italian Catholic priest , national historian and photographer .

Life

Nestore Pelicelli received his primary education in Parma, stepped out there in the seminary and was on 22 September 1894 in Carignano - a priest - a suburb of Parma ordained . Under the Parmesan Bishop Francesco Magani (1828–1907) he was Vice Chancellor of the Curia from 1895 to 1896 , coadjutor at the Church of St. Bartholomew in Parma and from autumn 1896 teacher of physics and mathematics at the Diocesan Seminary in Parma ( Italian Seminario Maggiore Parma ). He held this teaching position until 1912. In May 1896 Pelicelli became chaplain at the Basilica Santa Maria della Steccata in Parma and rose to this church in 1902 to the position of prefect.

In addition to his church activities, he dealt with the history and art history of Parma and its surroundings. In 1906 he published his - with fourteen re-editions extremely successful - city guide of Parma, titled Parma monumentale illustrata .

Pelicelli was also a well-known amateur photographer. The scientifically trained Pelicelli had owned a Koristka camera from Zeiss since 1901 . As a photographer and research writer, he toured Greece, Egypt, Palestine, India, Turkey, France and Germany. On long hikes he explored the Apennines near Parma.
