Neuenothe is one of 22 districts of the city of Bergneustadt in the Oberbergischer Kreis in the administrative district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany .

Location and description

The place is about 5.4 kilometers east of Bergneustadt as the crow flies in the valley of the Othe brook. Neighboring towns are Belmicke , Freischlade and Altenothe .

history

The place was mentioned for the first time in 1575. The place is listed on a map by Arnold Mercator with the place name "Nider Oite" . Neuenothe was mentioned in 1805 as a suburb of Belmicke (Nider Oite) in the church chronicle of St. Anna Church Belmicke.

Since the 1950s, the place has grown steadily due to the influx of citizens.

The “Othetaler Heimatlied” by the poet Karl Blatt describes the character of the valley and the population:

“Working there from morning to night is laborious,
and nothing is spared me in the struggle for existence.
As the fathers work, do [I?] My duty.
Stand true to the clod that nothing is lacking.

After the day's burdens and the week's hardships
, joy and pleasure should blossom freshly as a youth.
And according to custom and the ancestral song
celebration happy the festivals, love dance and sound. "

Association

Geographically and culturally, Neuenothe is the center of the Othetal. Neuenothe has the most inhabitants and is the largest town in the Othetal with 550 inhabitants. All activities in the Othetal are centered here. This is justified with the solidarity, the awareness of tradition and the culture of the Othetal population. These values have been promoted since 2013 within the framework of a community called "OHF". For this purpose an apple festival, a Christmas market and an open air event called “Rock im Hepper” have been organized. This community was mainly founded and lived by residents of the village of Neuenothe.

Further regular appointments have been organized for many years by the fire brigade and TuS Othetal. Every year there is an Easter bonfire, the Ascension hike, the "Party in the straw" and the New Year's Eve dobbling.

The following associations are currently active in Neuenothe:

  • Voluntary fire brigade: Othetal fire fighting group
  • Othetaler Heimatfreunde (OHF) founded in 2013
  • Patients in the Wachkoma eV
  • Sports club TuS Othetal eV
  • Wasserbeschaffungsverband Neuenothe (public corporation)

Since 2005, the Othetal fire fighting group has been decorating a large Christmas tree in Neuenothe shortly before the first Advent. It is now traditional to have a drink with a small snack when decorating the tree . Since 2008 also a tree in the village of Belmicke (colloquial "Auf der Belmicke").

In addition, the TuS Othetal and the Löschgruppe Othetal alternately hold a Senjoren Day once a year for all valley residents aged 60 and over in the Neuenothe village community center.

Church establishment

The Evangelical Chapel in Neuenothe was a building of the Evangelical Church Community in Wiedenest. It was extensively gutted and renovated in 2002. The altar area was very simply furnished. It consisted of a pedestal, a simple altar table and a simple wooden cross on the wall.

In 2013 the chapel was de-dedicated and there are no more services.

bus connections

The town is connected to local public transport via the Neuenothe bus stop on the 313 bus operated by the Oberbergische Verkehrsgesellschaft (OVAG).
