Altenothe is one of 22 districts of the town of Bergneustadt in the Oberbergischer Kreis in the administrative district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany .

Location and description

The place Altenothe is about five kilometers north-east of Bergneustadt as the crow flies in a cul-de-sac of the Othetal. This is also where the Altenothebach rises and flows into the Othebach in the village of Brelöh approx. 2 km away.

Altenothe currently (2017) has 50 residents and is remote in a very quiet valley location. Altenothe is the oldest place in the Othetal and is the namesake of today's Othetal.

There is no industry. For this, one concentrates on agricultural and forestry work in the hobby area or sideline.

Altenothe and its surroundings have been part of the Bergisches Panorama Höhenweg since 2013.

First mention

The place was probably mentioned in a document for the first time in 1237: Duke Heinrich von Brabant enfeoffed "Hermann de Uthe" with a house in Cologne (localization uncertain). The spelling of the first mention was Uthe .

The year 1375 is considered to be the safe first mention as in the Oten . The nuns Aleke and Ida of the Drolshagen Monastery acquire a property "in der Oten" from Franco von Eiwich .
