The NME T1 was a 1936 by Christoph & Unmack in Niesky developed and in Mittenwalder Neukoelln railway used DMUs . It came to the Osthannoversche Eisenbahnen in 1953 and was retired and scrapped after about 40 years of service.

history

The railcar was originally intended for passenger transport on the Neumarkter Kleinbahn . When this company ceased passenger traffic in 1936, the four railcars operating there were taken over by Vering & Waechter and offered to the Neukölln-Mittenwald Railway for continued operation. This is why they switched their passenger transport to railcar operation at short notice. The line speed was increased to a maximum speed of 40 km / h. The result was a strong increase in transport numbers, for which a planned Wismar rail bus was not sufficient.

The new railcar from Niesky with the serial number 1010 offered space for around 100 people and could take a sidecar with it, so that a total of 170 people could be transported better and faster. After it was put into service, the locomotive was given the name Fliegender Rixdorfer .

Together with the smaller T2 , the T1 was used in such a way that five pairs of trains could be driven between Neuköln and Mittenwalde every day. With this and the 29-minute reduction in travel time per route, it was possible to limit the migration of passengers to bus services.

In the period up to the Second World War , the company's transport numbers increased six-fold compared to the introduction of railcar traffic. This enabled profit to be made, which was invested in the renewal of the route. Several operational images of the railcar exist from the war.

After 1945 he drove two laps on his main route, provided fuel was available. Due to the division of Berlin, the number of people to be transported dwindled, so that the company could do without the T1 in 1953 .

In the same year, the railcar was exchanged for the DL 00601 diesel locomotive of the East Hanoverian Railways. At first it still had the two-tone paintwork, later it was painted completely red. There was also a 1st class compartment and smaller headlamps. In an undated conversion, its performance was increased to 2 × 145 hp after an engine exchange, and the conversion of the front sides with additional tail lights is also undated.

Its drive configuration was too old to cope with the increasing competition from vehicles with automatic transmissions and greater transport capacity. The railcar was retired in 1975. He had a service life of almost 40 years, although he was designed for about ten years of service when it was commissioned.
