The WUMAG type 1 multiple units without coupling were diesel multiple units from Waggon- und Maschinenbau Görlitz , which were procured by several private railway companies in Germany from 1933. The main features were a 4.5 m wheelbase , a service weight of around 10 t and 32 seats

The vehicles were intended to compete with the Wismar rail bus and had no pulling and buffing equipment , only impact plates. They were among the smallest rail buses in Germany. Since they were only intended to operate over very short distances, they did not have a toilet. The price for a railcar of this series was 30,000 Reichsmarks .

Since this configuration did not sell well, the design was revised in 1935 and the vehicles were equipped with a pulling and buffing device for carrying a sidecar. The railcars manufactured in this design were called Wettin railcars . They were used by some railway administrations until around 1970. In terms of numbers, the vehicles with the pre-war / post-war designation were mixed up; While all vehicles before the Second World War consistently counted as VT 135 (vehicles with diesel engine) according to the scheme of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (1920–1945) , the vehicles taken over there were with the scheme of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (1945–1993) without pulling and bumpers referred to as DR class VT 133.5 , the Wettin railcars were correctly assigned to the DR class VT 135.5 series . The nationalization of the private railways led to misinterpretations.

Constructive features

The chassis was a frame construction . The interior was divided into the passenger compartment and the two driver's cabs. These were separated from each other by partitions and revolving doors. The floor was made of pine wood covered with linoleum. The machine system could be serviced via flaps in the floor. The vehicles had 32 seats in different designs and at that time meant an improvement in travel comfort, especially thanks to the large windows. Due to the short distances on which the vehicles were used, there was no toilet. The running gear consisted of a two-axle running gear made of light disc wheels , which was mounted in roller bearings and connected to the car body via long leaf springs .

The vehicles were powered by a four-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine OM 65 from Mercedes-Benz . The power was transmitted via the Mylius gearbox and an axle reversing gearbox, which was provided with a torque bracket. The machine system was suspended on a machine support frame on the frame of the vehicle. The vehicle was heated by a warm water heater, which was designed in such a way that the interior of the vehicle could be heated to +20 ° C at an outside temperature of −20 ° C.

Schönermark – Damme circular path T 01

Little is known about the use of the Schönermark – Damme T 01 circuit . After the war it was one of the smallest vehicles on the Deutsche Reichsbahn. There were problems with renumbering according to the new numbering scheme from 1949. The vehicle was initially designated as the VT 135 513 and drove with this designation for about three years. It was not until 1952 that it was given the correct designation VT 133 512 . This was due to the diesel engine, with which it would have counted as a VT 135 according to the pre-war scheme. The Deutsche Reichsbahn, however, only assigned vehicles without drawbars and bumpers to the VT 135 series . If the railcar was still based in Prenzlau in 1950, it was then withdrawn from its regular route; on January 1, 1955, he was based in Neustrelitz and on January 1, 1960 at the Stralsund depot . There is no precise information about its further use. Here he finished his active service. The railcar was parked in 1963, after five years it was scrapped at the Reichsbahn repair shop in Wittenberge .

Neukölln-Mittenwalder Railway T2

This railcar was built by WUMAG in 1935 and delivered to the Neumarkter Kleinbahn for operation on the approximately 5 km long route. When traffic was stopped on this 1936 for the summer timetable, the railcar came to Berlin in the same year with the Neukölln-Mittenwalder Railway T1 and was used on the Neukölln-Mittenwalder Railway . There, the car , known as the nimble Hermann , alternated with the larger T1 shuttle trips between Berlin Hermannstrasse and Berlin-Rudow .

It operated as a single vehicle and was in constant use on the Neukölln-Mittenwald railway until passenger traffic was discontinued , and after 1953 it was the company's only railcar. When passenger traffic was discontinued, the T2 was parked in 1955. The scrapping followed in 1968.

Kleinbahn Freienwalde – Zehden MT 401

This railcar was built by WUMAG in 1935 and delivered to Kleinbahn Freienwalde – Zehden for operation on the approximately 17.5 km long route. The vehicle was purchased brand new as a replacement for the gasoline-electric MT 5 multiple unit , which was oversized for this route.

It was originally intended for operation on the Brandenburg city railway . From 1940 it was referred to as MT 401 . It is possible that the railcar was used on other routes by the Brandenburg State Transport Authority. The MT 401 was used to escape the management of the Kleinbahn Freienwalde – Zehden to Willinghusen near Hamburg to Schleswig-Holstein . There the MT 401 operated until 1952 on the Südstormarnsche Kreisbahn and after its closure on the Tecklenburger Nordbahn . In 1959 the railcar burned out and was scrapped in the same year.

Prenzlauer Kreisbahnen T 02

This railcar was procured by the Brandenburg State Transport Authority for the relatively short distances of the small railways initially owned by the district .

The Prenzlauer Kreisbahnen T 02 was incorrectly designated as VT 135 545 by the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1949 with regard to the type of drive , which was corrected in 1952 to VT 133 516 . If it was still based in Prenzlau in 1950, it was later withdrawn from its regular route; on January 1, 1955, he was employed at the Stralsund depot . There is no precise information about its further use. Here he finished his active service. The railcar was parked in 1966, after four years it was scrapped in the Wittenberge repair shop .
