Neumühle (Schmidthahn)
The Neumühle near Schmidthahn , a district of Steinebach an der Wied , is a former watermill in the upper Westerwald .
In addition to the Alte Mühle in Steinebach ( Steinebacher Mühle ), there was also the Neue Mühle (in the dialect Nôuwmill ) in Schmidthahn in the Dreifelden parish . It is the first mill on the upper reaches of the Wied directly below the Dreifelder Weiher . The Neue Mühle was first mentioned in 1718 when Johann Adams Tönges von Dreifelden and Johann Peter Frantz von Steinebach applied for the construction of a cutting mill . In 1733, the new owners applied for the construction of a grinding and oil mill . 1740 the mill had but one shot transition a milling operation for wheat . However, the mill business at that time suffered from the demarcation, as customers in the Sayn-Hachenburg area were required to grind in the state-owned nesting mill near Hachenburg instead of in Schmidthahn in Wied . In 1747 the mill became the property of the local government and was leased. The last tenant, Johann Christ Hachenburg, bought it in 1794 for 850 Reichstalers . In 1783 the mill was built from scratch; the stones were obtained from the stone castle ruins .
The mill fulfilled several functions as a grinding mill for grain and wheat as well as an oil and cutting mill. To do this, she used three water wheels , but because the Wied was still small, they got their water from a mill pond. Because of the unfavorable earnings situation, the owners gradually gave up individual branches of the business; the wheat grinding system was no longer in operation in 1745, and the granulator no longer existed in 1811.
