Schmidthahn is a district of the local community of Steinebach an der Wied in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . The place belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Hachenburg .

Schmidthahn is located in the Upper Wiedtal on the Westerwald lake district , about six kilometers south of Hachenburg and 20 kilometers north of Montabaur . The district of the village borders Gehlert in the north, an exclave of Alpenrod and Lochum in the east, Dreifelden in the south-west, Steinen in the south, Hartenfels in the south-west and Steinebach in the west and north-west. The villages of Langenbaum and Seeburg are also within the boundaries of Schmidthahn .
The Haldenweiher and Hofmannsweiher are located in the Schmidthahn district . Schmidthahn borders the Dreifelder Weiher in the village of Seeburg . The Wied and the Steinebach flow through the district of Schmidthahn . The district roads 1, 2 and 24 lead through Schmidthahn. The federal road 8 is about four kilometers away.
history
Schmidthahn was first mentioned in a document as Smiterhan during the 13th century . Historically, Schmidthahn belonged to the Electorate of Trier . There the village belonged to the parish of Dreifelden. In 1718 Neumühle , which belonged to the place, was first mentioned in a document. Schmidthahn remained in the Principality of Wied until 1803, after which the place came to the Duchy of Nassau and belonged to the Grenzhausen office in the Ehrenbreitstein administrative district . Schmidthahn was not affected by the assignment of territory after the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the community was only incorporated into the office of Selters . Schmidthahn only came to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1867 .
The Schmidthahn community was incorporated into the newly formed Unterwesterwaldkreis as part of the Selters office . In 1886 the office was finally dissolved. Due to the regional reforms in Rhineland-Palatinate , Schmidthahn was incorporated into the municipality of Steinebach an der Wied with the districts Langenbaum and Seeburg . The Unterwesterwaldkreis was dissolved on March 16, 1974 and became part of the new Westerwaldkreis . Schmidthahn belongs to the community of Hachenburg.
