Location of Neuscharrel in Lower Saxony |
Neuscharrel is a district of the city of Friesoythe , which is in the district of Cloppenburg in Lower Saxony .
history
On November 19, 1821, the name of the village was determined by Duke Friedrich Ludwig. The name Neuscharrel is based on that of the mother community Scharrel . At the beginning of the 19th century there had been some settlements in Saterland , an "island in the moor", for a long time.
On Sunday, August 26th, 1821, there was a major fire, which was started by Gypsies through gross carelessness in a residential building. The houses were thatched and stood close together so that the fire could spread quickly. Since most of the citizens took part in a church service in the neighboring town of Ramsloh and therefore no rescue measures could be carried out, the whole village was destroyed.
Since the houses in Scharrel were close together, after the fire, the then bailiff Bartel in Friesoythe proposed to relocate some of the destroyed houses on the "Barenberge". The disadvantage here was that it was one to two hours away from the village and had previously only been used as animal pasture. The bailiff Bartel intended to cultivate the so-called "black moor" and not to repopulate the village of Scharrel so densely. At the request of the old Friesoythe office , the construction of 12 houses on the old fire site was permitted. The other 14 houses were referred to “Barenberg”.
On November 21, 1821, the staking out of the new Neuscharrel settlement began. The whole area arose from brand division. The sale of 200 Jück brought in 2026 Reichstaler. In the years 1830–1832 every citizen received 60 Reichstaler from the sale, at the end there were still 800 Reichstaler left. This amount was used to build a bridge over the Marka and create a road from Friesoythe to Neuscharrel.
17 Scharrelers decided to move to Neuscharrel in the first few years. Further immigration soon followed from neighboring Oldenburg and Hanover communities. The efforts paid off, in 1832 there were already 48 houses and the worst years were over. In 1855 the number rose to 67 houses.
On March 1, 1974 Neuscharrel was incorporated into the city of Friesoythe.
The current mayor is Stefan Fuhler.
