Nevada Barr
Nevada Barr (born March 1, 1952 in Yerington , Nevada ) is an American writer whose crime novels revolve around the main character Anna Pigeon . Most of the Anna Pigeon novels are set in US national parks and national monuments , only the last Burn so far takes place in New Orleans . The descriptions of the landscape and the peculiarities of flora and fauna are one of Nevada Barr's strengths.
The character of Anna Pigeon goes through a clear professional and personal development in the course of the meanwhile 16 novels. Professional succeeds the rise of the young lawman in Track of the Cat (dt. The trace of the cat ) to the District Ranger in Hard Truth . At first she personally suffers a lot from the death of her husband, which predates the novels and which she has not yet come to terms with. In later books ( Ill Wind , German witnesses made of stone ) she comes close to alcoholism, a danger that she avoids in later novels.
She regularly finds emotional support in telephone conversations with her sister Molly, a successful psychiatrist in New York. Her private life is characterized by changing love affairs in the early novels, later a steady lover joins Sheriff Paul Davidson, with whom she is married in Hard Truth .
The crime Anna Pigeon faces in the novels is usually murder, but always for unusual motives, and it often takes Anna Pigeon some effort to prove the murder as such or to convince her superiors of the need for further investigations.
