The US-based Rocky Mountain National Park is located north-west of Boulder in Colorado . The park is heavily frequented all year round and is known for its views of the Rocky Mountains as well as its flora and fauna. It has an extensive network of hiking trails and a large number of campsites. The Continental Divide and the Colorado River run through the national park area .

The park administration is located in Estes Park in Larimer County , which is to the northeast (at the east entrance) of the park. To the south, the park connects to the city of Grand Lake in Grand County . The city is located on Grand Lake , which is also what gave it its name, and which is known for snowmobile races in winter and an angler's paradise in summer. The two villages of Estes Park and Grand Lake are connected by the Trail Ridge Road . Parts of Grand County can only be reached through the park itself. The Rocky Mountain National Park was founded on January 26, 1915 under President Woodrow Wilson after the conservationist Enos Mills (1870-1922) had campaigned for such a national park for years.
