In June 1978 the members of the Kiss group recorded solo albums. Guitarist Ace Frehley had written numerous tracks himself for his project, but producer Eddie Kramer got a demo tape with the song New York Groove and gave it to Frehley because he believed the song would suit him. Kramer and Frehley edited the arrangement and recorded the title. The single reached number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed in the charts for 21 weeks.
