Live + 1 is the second sound carrier released by the band Frehley's Comet . It is an EP with four live recordings and a studio track produced by Eddie Kramer .

History of origin

Frehley's Comet had released their first album in July 1987 and achieved a respectable success. To make the band and album known, the group went on tour in the USA , during which various concerts were recorded. Later, the group was on the tour from October 28, 1987 in the opening act of Alice Cooper, but this was not financially worthwhile, so Frehley's Comet left the tour after the concert on November 10, 1987. The group then continued on its own responsibility.

Because of his commitments for the Late Letterman Show , Anton Fig was initially unable to take part in the tour. He was replaced by Billy Ward, who played during the group's summer dates. When tension arose, a short break was used to dismiss him, then Fig used a two-week vacation to continue the tour with Frehley's Comet. From the recordings made during this time, the group selected four tracks that had been recorded on September 4, 1987 at a concert in the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago . The reason for the release was to keep the band in the public eye, the decision to do so was made by Jon Zazula , head of the record company Megaforce Records .

In addition to the four songs, two of which were from Frehley's former band Kiss , but were written by Frehley, Live + 1 included the studio title Words are not Enough . This song was written by Jim Keneally in 1980 and used by Frehley's Comet for the demo tape produced in 1985 . When recording the debut album, Words are not Enough was left as a so-called outtake . The title originally comprised three stanzas , but was shortened by 20 seconds compared to the demo version and was retained as a two- stanza song. Frehley was co-authored by editing the title.

The album was released in February 1988. The cover photo of Mark Weiss, who took the portraits for the cover of the Crazy Nights album by Kiss last year , showed a live recording of the band. Howarth, Frehley and Regan can be seen, the drummer cannot be seen, you can only see the drum riser equipped with spotlights, artificial fog can be seen above. The band logo is in the upper third of the picture, and the album title is printed below it. On the back there are four individual photos of the band members, which were taken by different photographers: Ace Frehley was photographed by Lydia Criss, Howarth and Fig by Frank White and Regan by Gene Ambo.

reception

“Words are not enough” alone is worth buying. The live songs are good too, especially the cover of Kiss' Rocket Ride. "

The German magazine Metal Hammer wrote:

"Good stuff! This new EP from Frehley's Comet, the band of the ex-Kiss guitarist Space Ace Frehley, brings a live atmosphere into the living room. Recorded in Chicago last year, the disc contains the following live tracks: Rip It Out (from Fehley's 78 Kiss solo LP), Breakout , Something Moved (both from Frehley's Comet album) and Rocket Ride, which first appeared on page four of the Kiss Alive II Opus was heard. The studio recording of the demo track Words Are Not Enough , previously unreleased on vinyl, brings the EP to a close in the best Frehley style. But it is not enough for the highest grade. The boring and completely superfluous drum solo after Breakout only allows a rating in the range of six. "

- Metal Hammer , issue 4/1988, page 58

The album reached number 84 on the Billboard 200 and lasted ten weeks.
