history
Newman / Haas Racing was able to achieve eight championship titles in the Champ Car series, making it the record holder. Four of the titles come from the forerunner series of the Champ Cars, the CART series , and four with Sébastien Bourdais in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 from the Champ Car series, with which Sébastien Bourdais also made history because this one has never succeeded anyone before.
In 2006, Newman / Haas Racing fielded two vehicles with a Lola chassis, Cosworth engines and Bridgestone tires and the drivers Sébastien Bourdais and Bruno Junqueira . For 2007, Junqueira was replaced by Graham Rahal , the son of Bobby Rahal . And Mike Lanigan joined as a new partner, which led to the name Newman / Haas / Lanigan Racing .
On July 27, 2007 the Newman / Haas / Lanigan team announced the merger with the NASCAR team Robert Yates Racing . The base of the Champ Car operations remains in Lincolnshire, the NASCAR cars are prepared in Mooresville , North Carolina . The new team is theoretically called Yates / Newman / Haas / Lanigan Racing , but the old names will continue to be used in the respective racing series.
With the end of the Champ Cars 2008, the team switched to the IndyCar series. The drivers here were Justin Wilson and Graham Rahal. Both won a race this season, Rahal in St. Petersburg and Wilson in Detroit.
In 2009 the team had a solid season with several podium finishes. The drivers Graham Rahal and Robert Doornbos did not manage to win . Doornbos was exchanged for the Spaniard Oriol Servià towards the end of the season due to poor results .
Before the 2010 season, Graham Rahal lost his McDonald's sponsorship and thus his place on the team. So you started the season with just one car, which was driven by the Japanese Hideki Mutoh . Towards the middle of the season, a second car could be used again, which was again driven by Graham Rahal.
In the 2011 season, two cars with Oriol Servià and James Hinchcliffe as drivers were used almost continuously ; only at the opening race in St. Petersburg was only Servià at the start, who was able to achieve four podium places during the season. Hinchcliffe was named Rookie of the Year .
Before the 2012 season, the team announced that due to the economic situation, they would not be starting any cars in the IndyCar Series for this season.
