Professional career

In 2008 he switched to the professional camp and from then on trained in Panama. By the end of 2009 he won each of his twelve fights, ten of them prematurely. In December 2009, he defeated the undefeated Dominican Carlos Reyes by unanimous decision on points and became Central American Champion of the WBA. After eight more wins, including four title defenses, he finally got a World Cup chance in December 2012 against the Colombian Daulis Prescott, brother of the boxer Breidis Prescott . He won the featherweight world title of the WBA in the seventh round through tKo in Kingston , becoming the tenth world boxing champion from Jamaica and also the first in this weight class. He won his first title defense in November 2013 through tKo in the fourth round against the Mexican Alberto Garza. This was also his debut in the USA. In May 2014 he beat a first internationally known boxer, the Armenian ex-world champion Wachtang Dartschinjan by knockout in the fifth round. In October 2014 he had a spectacular win against Nonito Donaire from the Philippines.
