Nicolai von Schweder-Schreiner

Nicolai von Schweder-Schreiner (* 1967 in Lisbon , Portugal ) is a German translator and musician .

Life

Nicolai von Schweder-Schreiner lived in Rio de Janeiro from 1981 to 1984 ; he is based in Hamburg today . Schweder-Schreiner translates works of fiction from English and Portuguese into German . He has also been a member of the band Veranda Music as a guitarist and singer since 1999 .

Nicolai von Schweder-Schreiner is a member of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works . In 2009 he received one of the Hamburg sponsorship awards for literature and literary translations for his translation of Richard Milward's novel "Ten storey love song" ; this again in 2018 for his translation of So end we (Meia-Noite e Vinte) by Daniel Galera from the Portuguese. Together with the author Chigozie Obioma , he was awarded an International Literature Prize by the House of World Cultures in 2020 for his translation The Weeping of the Birds .
