Life

According to a report by Weltwoche , Blancho grew up in a liberal-minded family in Biel with no religious affiliation. After finishing secondary school, he first began an apprenticeship as a printer. At the age of 16, Blancho converted to Sunni Islam. He broke off his apprenticeship, then went to high school and in 2007 studied Islamic studies and law at the University of Bern .

In 2004, Blancho founded the company "Alquds Food GmbH" with the aim of importing food from Tunisia in particular . The company was dissolved again in 2007. Together with Abdul Hamid Al-Fayek, he founded the food import and export company "A & B Tradex GmbH" in 2006, which was dissolved in 2013.

Blancho is fluent in German, French and Arabic. He is married and a father of two.

Blancho represents a Wahhabi -influenced Islam based on the Saudi model, which excludes a contemporary interpretation of the holy scriptures. He described stoning as "a component, a value of my religion", but which should not be used in the Swiss context. It has been known since 2003 that Blancho is campaigning for the introduction of Sharia law in Switzerland. In 2006, Blancho organized a national demonstration against the Mohammed cartoons .

Blancho is President of the Islamic Central Council Switzerland (IZRS). One of Blancho's goals is to build a network of Muslims - with Muslim doctors, taxi drivers, bakers, et cetera.

Blancho is over-indebted and has been convicted several times.

Controversy

Blancho and the Islamic Central Council of Switzerland have been characterized in the press as dangerous Islamists . Tariq Ramadan called him a "marginal phenomenon in the Muslim country." Other newspaper articles alleged links to terrorists . Markus Seiler, Director of the Federal Intelligence Service , on the other hand, told the Central Council in May 2010: "The IZRS is about ideological, not violent extremism."

In November 2016, the Swiss public prosecutor's office initiated an investigation into jihadist propaganda and a possible violation of the federal law banning al-Qaeda and Islamic State (IS) and related organizations against Blancho and Qaasim Illi . In 2015, the Islamic Central Council published a Syria film which, according to the Federal Prosecutor's Office, is “propagandistic”.

In May 2018, the federal court in Lausanne confirmed that Blancho was not allowed to purchase a firearm. He had submitted an application in 2015 that had been rejected by the Bern canton police . The Bernese Administrative Court had ruled that Blancho "could endanger third parties with a weapon"

According to the newspaper Le Temps , the Federal Intelligence Service (NDB) is investigating the connections between Blancho and Qatar- based Abdulrahman al-Nuaimi and Ali Abdullah al-Suwaidi, who are networked with al-Qaeda .

Blancho receives financial support from Qatar. He is vice-president of the Bernese associations Aziz Aid in Qoranona, under the direction of Abdulaziz Abdulrahman HA Al-Thani, member of the royal house of Qatar.
