Nikolai Fyodorovich Kolin
Nikolai Fedorovich Kolin , also Nicolas Koline and Nicolai Kolin ( Russian Николай Фёдорович Колин ; born April 25 . Jul / 7. May 1878 greg. In Saint Petersburg , † July 1966 in Nyack , New York , USA ) was a Russian actor .
Life
After training as a teacher, he became an actor in 1907. During the Tsarist times he played especially at the Moscow Art Theater . After the October Revolution in 1917, he emigrated and came to Western Europe in 1919.
He first lived and worked in France. He received his first major role in 1927 in the monumental film Napoleon . In 1928 he took on a role in Secrets of the Orient for the first time in a German film. Kolin embodied a shoemaker who came into possession of a miracle pipe and was mistaken for a prince.
From the mid-1930s, he stayed mainly in Nazi Germany and lived in Munich. In his first sound film Varieté , he played an old clown in both the French and German versions. Kolin, at the beginning consistently seen in leading roles, became a frequently used supporting actor in German films, who mostly portrayed amiable gentlemen and father figures as in 1941 in Illusion . Even in the post-war period he was involved in many German productions.
In 1955, Kolin ended his career and in the same year decided to move to New York. Coming from Cuxhaven , he arrived in New York on January 2nd, 1956 with the ship 'Italia'. Now a US citizen, Kolin died ten and a half years later in New York State.
