Nicolas Plestan (born June 2, 1981 in Nice ) is a former French soccer player who played for FC Schalke 04 in the German Bundesliga in the 2010/11 season . His preferred position is central defense .
Career
Plestan played as a youth at AS Monaco , where he was used in the 2000/01 season in the amateur championship . In the 2001/02 season he spent half a year on loan at AC Ajaccio in Corsica . In his first appearance in the League Cup, he injured himself and did not play another game for the second division. He initially returned to Monaco and moved to Lille OSC in 2003 .
Here he made his Ligue 1 debut on September 20, 2003 , LOSC lost 2-0 in Plestan's hometown at OGC Nice . Plestan completed 109 games in the first division by the end of the 2009/10 season, in which he scored three goals. The most important of these was the goal on May 30, 2009, the last matchday of the 2008/09 season . In the 74th minute he scored the winning goal to 3-2 against AS Nancy , which secured Lille entry into the Europa League . However, the goal scorer was attested for this game as having an "imperfect defensive performance". In the 2009/10 season he was only used five times due to an injury - and because he was not ready to renew his contract.
With Lille, Plestan made 15 international UEFA Champions League appearances (nine of which were in the 2006/07 season when the LOSC were only eliminated in the round of 16 after two 1-0 defeats by Manchester United ) and in the UEFA Cup .
After seven years in Ligue 1, he signed a three-year contract with FC Schalke 04 in August 2010 . After Plestan only appeared in three Bundesliga and one Champions League games for Schalke, his contract was terminated after the 2010/11 season.
Private
In April 2007, Plestan aimed a counterfeit weapon from the car at another driver. In March 2008, he was sentenced to three months' probation and to the payment of a fine of 1,000 euros and 1,800 euros in compensation for pain and suffering .
