Nicolas Stocker

Nicolas Stocker (* 1988 in Zurich ) is a Swiss fusion musician ( drums , percussion , composition ).

Live and act

Stocker grew up in a family of musicians and has been playing the piano since he was five and drums since he was eleven. From 2008 to 2011 he completed his bachelor's degree at the Zurich University of the Arts . This was followed by a study visit to New York lasting several months with private lessons with Jim Black , Mark Guiliana , Kendrick Scott and Dan Weiss . From 2011 to 2013 he studied music education at the Zurich Art Academy up to a master’s degree; He also received composition lessons from Felix Profos and studied at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences with Gerry Hemingway , Norbert Pfammatter and Pascal Pons.

Stocker led his own band Bells for Pony . He also worked with Chris Wiesendanger , Dominique Girod , Martin Baumgartner, Florian Favre and Florian Egli . He was also a member of Betapartner, Ursina, Philipp Eden Trio and Janett's jazz kit ; Since 2013 he has been part of Nik Bärtschs Mobile ( Continuum 2016) and has toured internationally with this band. With the pianist Raphael Loher and the guitarist Urs Müller, he founded the trio Kali , which performed at the Willisau Jazz Festival in 2017 and released his album Riot in 2018 . He plays with the singer Marena Whitcher in the surrealism pop duo Whitcher & Stocker . Together with the soprano Larissa Bretscher and Christian Wyss, he formed the indie pop trio Marylane , which has so far been documented on two albums.

In 2018 Stocker released his album Solo . In the same year he could be seen as a soloist with 100 dancers in the Zurich train station hall at Zurich dances . With the pianist and singer Areni Agbabian, he released the album Bloom ( ECM Records ) in 2019 .

Prizes and awards

In 2012, Stocker was the recipient of the Friedl-Wald Foundation's sponsorship award. The Berti Alter Förderpreis followed in 2013. With the Trio Kali he won the audience award at the ZKB Jazz Prize in 2017 .
