Nicole Chapple

Nicole "Nikki" Chapple (born February 9, 1981 ) is an Australian long-distance runner .

At the beginning of her career, she took part in the World Junior Athletics Championships in 1998 in Annecy , where she achieved best times over 3000 m (9: 40.62 min) and 5000 m (16: 57.02 min).

After that, she retired from athletics until 2001. When she got back to work, she was trained by Pam Turney and finally received a scholarship to the University of Iowa , where she studied art from 2003 to 2006 and started for the cross-country team. In 2004 she improved, both in the hall, over 3000 m to 9: 34.17 and over 5000 m to 16: 27.04; after that, injuries bothered her.

In 2008, when she returned to her home country, she attempted a comeback as a road runner and immediately achieved a half marathon time of 1:14:38 h. Her breakthrough came the following year, when she first won the 10 km championship in Victoria in a time of 32:38 minutes, then came fourth in the Great North Run in 1:10:03 and finally the Great Australian Run over 15 km in 50:18 minutes.

In 2010 she won the Kagawa Marugame Half Marathon , increasing to 1:08:37. At the marathon of the World Athletics Championships 2013 in Moscow she finished 45th with 3:05:49 h. On October 12, 2014, she won the Melbourne Marathon in 2:31:05 h.

Chapple lives in Melbourne , starts for the Box Hill Athletic Club and is currently coached by Chris O'Connor. She is married to Nathan Cole.
