Nicole Gerlach (born June 1, 1994 - June 4, 2019 ) was an Austrian grass skier . She was a member of the junior team of the Austrian Ski Association , started in the World Cup in 2009 and won four medals at junior world championships . Her older sister Jacqueline Gerlach was also a grass skier.
Career
A few days after her 15th birthday, Nicole Gerlach took part in an FIS race for the first time and immediately afterwards also in her first World Cup race , the super combined in Wilhelmsburg on June 6, 2009, which she finished in tenth place. After several failures, she came in sixth in the second World Cup slalom in Čenkovice on July 5th . At the 2009 Junior World Championships in Horní Lhota u Ostravy , Czech Republic , Gerlach finished on the podium in three of four competitions. In the giant slalom she finished second behind her sister and in both slalom and super combined she achieved third place. In the Super-G, however, she was disqualified after a goal error. In the further course of the World Cup season, Gerlach was able to consistently place in the top ten, whereby she reached seventh place overall. At the 2009 World Championships in Rettenbach , she was three times in the top ten. She finished seventh in the super combined, eighth in the slalom, ninth in the giant slalom and twelfth in the super-G.
Nicole Gerlach won the bronze medal in slalom at the 2010 Junior World Championships in Dizin . She just missed further medals as fourth in the Super-G and in the Super Combined; in the giant slalom she was sixth. In the World Cup she was only able to score points in the final in September after a few failures in the 2010 season . There she first achieved eighth place in the Super-G, then dropped out again twice, and finally ended the season with her first podium, third place in the slalom in Sestriere . In the overall standings she nevertheless fell back to 14th place.
Gerlach remained unsuccessful in the 2011 season. She could not score in the World Cup and did not achieve any top results at major events either. At the 2011 World Championships in Goldingen she was third in the first slalom run, but was canceled in the second run. So an 18th and last place in the Super-G was her only World Cup result. In the Junior World Championship , which was also held at the same time , she saw the finish line in seventh place in the slalom in just one race. Only at the national level did she achieve a minor success with the junior title in the Super-G . In 2012 Gerlach did not take part in any competitions.
