Career

Niklas Lundström started his career in the youth division of Värmdö HC and moved to AIK Stockholm in 2008 . There he played in various junior teams. In 2009 he won the Swedish U18 championship with AIK. In the J20 SuperElit , he achieved the best catch quota in 2012 and 2014, and in 2012 also the lowest goals against goals in the league. However, he initially stayed with AIK and played a total of 19 games in the Svenska Hockeyligan or its predecessor Elitserien i Ishockey for his home club from 2010 to 2014 . In the 2013/14 season he was mostly loaned to the Allsvenskan Club Södertälje SK , for which he played 24 games.

After he had already been signed by the St. Louis Blues in 2013, Lundström actually moved across the pond in 2014 and occasionally played for the Blues farm team, the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League . More often he was used in the ECHL with the Alaska Aces and the Elmira Jackals . In February 2016 he was handed over to the Edmonton Oilers by the Blues in exchange for Anders Nilsson . The Oilers have so far only used it on their AHL farm team, the Bakersfield Condors .

Lundström represented his home country in the junior division at the U18 World Cup in 2011 and the U20 World Cup in 2013 and was able to win the silver medal in both tournaments. In 2011, he achieved the lowest goals against goals in the U18 World Cup. Two years later, the U20 tournament scored the second best goalscoring rate behind the American John Gibson and the third best catch quota behind Gibson and the Russian Andrei Wassilewski .
