Nicholas Gompe

Nicholas Gompe (also Nicholas of Rauenthal * to 1524 / 25 in Rauenthal in the Rheingau , † 4. October 1595 in Wiesbaden ) was a German Lutheran theologian.

Life

Gompe first took up studies at the University of Mainz , switched to the University of Heidelberg on April 26, 1543 and there acquired the academic degree of a baccalaureate at the Faculty of Philosophy on November 7, 1543 . He was enthusiastic about the ideas of the Reformation , went to the University of Marburg in 1544 and continued his studies on October 3, 1545 at the University of Wittenberg .

In 1546 he went to Erbenheim as a pastor . During the Augsburg interim he lost his job there in 1548 and returned to Wittenberg via Strasbourg and Heidelberg . Here he was sent to Freienwalde as a deacon on the recommendation of Philipp Melanchthon .

In 1553 he became court preacher to Count Philip I of Nassau-Idstein in Wiesbaden , where he played a key role in the reconstruction of the Protestant church and in 1577 became inspector of the Wiesbaden rule. There he drafted a church order based on the Nuremberg model, the principles of which were incorporated into the church order of Nassau-Saarbrücken . In addition to Anton Weber (theologian), he became one of the most important theologians of Südnassau in the 16th century.
